Japanese Knotweed is fast growing, spreads like wildfire and causes serious damage to both property and local ecosystems as the root system of the weed undermines the foundations of buildings, bursts through paths and concrete and kills off the local flora as it grows and spreads. The Environment Agency considers Japanese Knotweed to be an invasive species and it was made illegal to spread the plant in the UK by the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. It is also classed as "controlled waste" in Britain under part 2 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
It is now also illegal to develop a site in London, Croydon or the South East that has a Knotweed problem until it has been properly dealt with and banks will also not approve mortgages on properties that have a Japanese Knotweed problem. You can identify Japanese Knotweed by the picture on this page.
Stem injection works by injecting the herbicide directly into each cane of the weed and any nodes above ground level using specialist Japanese Knotweed treatment equipment. The herbicide then moves through the plants root system and eradicates the problem during the treatment programme. Because the herbicide is injected directly into the Japanese Knotweed itself, the treatment can be used in waterside and environmentally sensitive areas.
In addition to holding the relevant qualifications and licences for the treatment and disposal of Japanese Knotweed, all of our Japanese Knotweed control staff have Public Liability Insurance and comply with all current Health & Safety legislation, making AGS the smart choice for eradicating and disposing of your Japanese Knotweed problem.
